Situation - a start up business with two main shareholders who were industry experienced but needed start up funding and advice on company structure and operations.
Our Role - introduced them to a High Street bank to set up an invoice finance line. With speed of growth, this line was extended 3 times in the first year. Provided business mentoring service for 18 months.
Outcome - business delivered £10m sales in Year 1 and £16m the following year, new Finance Director recruited.
Situation– Family business that had hit a glass ceiling in terms of ability to grow. Sound financials but operations were too tactical not strategic
Our Role– produced more relevant Management Information including a ‘dashboard’, reviewed and implemented new internal structure with reporting guidelines, introduced a 'sale pipeline', facilitated discussions after shareholders’ relationship breakdown, reviewed tax management arrangements and build framework for exit plan
Outcome– Monthly board meeting now more focussed, Sales team understand roles more clearly, shareholders enjoyed new roles and responsibilities, business growth continuing in a more structured manner, succession plan in focus
Situation – Traditional firm with 5 partners (3 Equity, 2 Salaried), referred to NWBC by bank, cashflow pressures, over-staffed, underperforming in many areas and drawings in excess of profits.
Our Role– conducted a strategic review and commenced implementing recommended actions, staff appraisals, handled banking relationships on behalf of partners, reviewed staffing and overhead base. Hands-on role with immediate resignation of Managing Partner, dealt with regulatory authorities, worked on a part-contingent fee arrangement
Outcome – Partners' meeting became focussed, amicable departure of a senior partner, overhead base much reduced, cash position controlled, bank facilities renewed for a longer period
Situation - Shareholder ran the business in the belief that sales would arrive ‘tomorrow’. Weak financial awareness and a refusal to produce Management Information led to a worsening position. Borrowings from a high street lender were substantial. Bank had placed client with Special Situations team.
Our Role – produced regular Management Information, implemented new company wide accounting system, handled banking relationship, improved cash flow, reduced headcount
Outcome – bank brought on side, separate finance for capex acquired enabling client to win a £2m contract from UK automotive customer, laid off staff were re-appointed.
